Yellow Army Day

15 August 2013

Join the Yellow Army for a post-match party

The Yellow Army will officially launch at an Oxford United match next month with a bonanza of events, including a post-match party where fans will be able to mingle with current and former players.

A number of activities will take place around United's home match versus Chesterfield on September 21st to herald an exciting new era at the club.

Before the match Milk Cup winner David Langan will be introduced to the crowd as a special guest - where The Yellow Army will present him with a cheque for funds raised by U's fans to help their hero. Currently £5,146 has been collected. A number of former United stars will join Langan as special guests to mark the big day.

They will be joined on the pitch by manager Chris Wilder and captain Jake Wright, plus some of Langan's former team mates. The money was collected in less than four weeks after a campaign to raise funds to buy his Milk Cup and League Two winners medals was launched. The medals will go on display at the Kassam Stadium, as a lasting legacy of Langan's contribution to Oxford United. Financial problems forced the former defender to sell his home and the money will go towards his plan to purchase a mobile home.

After the match the Yellow Army Day will go into full swing at the club's training ground with a party. The event will be attended by members of the first team squad and management, development team, ladies team, and former players.

Legends confirmed to attend so far include Jeremy Charles, Les Phillips, Anton Rogan, Chris Allen, Peter Rhoades Brown and Joey Beauchamp and more are expected to confirm in the coming weeks.

Fans will get the rare chance to pit their wits against a United legends team in a 6-aside competition and have their photos taken with the players and United silverware. An auction will also take place.

A BBQ, disco and children's entertainment, including a rodeo surfer and bouncy castle will be included in the ticket price. Fans can also buy specially printed Yellow Army money to play on a casino table.

Tickets are now on sale via the OxVox website and will be on sale in the 12th Man Bar on matchdays, priced at £30 for adults, or £50 for two adults, plus £10 for children aged 7 to 14. Entry to the six-a-side competition is £100 per team. All money raised, including profits from the bar, will go towards The Yellow Army's goal to raise £20,000 by January to boost Chris Wilder's transfer kitty. Doors will open at 6.15pm for a 7pm start.

Trevor Lambert of the Yellow Army said: "This promises to be a fantastic day. The spirit is back at Oxford United and the official launch of the Yellow Army will bring everyone connected with our great club together.

"Fans will be able to mix with players and management from the first team, the ladies, the development squad, and several legends.

"It's testament to the club and The Yellow Army that all of the Oxford United teams have pledged to attend. The club is all about the fans and the players, past and present and this event epitomises every that is special about Oxford United.

"We're delighted that the club are backing our launch party with such gusto and honoured that David Langan will be joining us along with several true United legends.

"There will be something for all of the family at the party and every penny raised will go into the 12th Man Fund to help the club."
